This week is a revelation of how trade favors promotions, slightly senseless entertainment but also at the same time keeps a benchmark for films to scrape through and survive. While Siruthai tops, it means the high entertainment quotient wins but poor promotions is a letdown for Kaavalan.
6) Ilaignan
Although high melodrama is apparent, some scenes are well written and most scenes are poorly made. Ilaignan is at its twilight in the box office and he will be vanquished by next week’s releases. Ilaignan earns Rs. 1,22,631 totaling a mere Rs. 18 lakhs.
5) Vaada Poda Nanbargal
Although we don’t seem to have seen at least one poster, Vaada Poda Nanbargal has made about Rs. 2,93,594. Not much is known about this movie.
4) Pathinaaru
This is a Mirchi Shiva film which Kalaipuli S Thanu intended releasing. The sole “mainstream” release of this week gains good attention. Pathinaaru is attended for Rs. 8,26,015 during its opening weekend.
3) Kaavalan
After the realization of the failure of ‘one-man fighting the odds of the society’ formula movies hitting hard, Vijay’s timing could not have been better in releasing Kavalan. Director Siddique maintains his humane touch in Kavalan rendering Vijay scope for performance. Asin is a pretty add on.
Trade Talk:Slow and steady but with positive word of mouth, the movies collections are consistently retaining momentum.
Public Talk:Vijay seems to be personally involved in the publicity and promotional activities of Kavalan.

2) Aadukalam
Dhanush – Vetrimaaran team’s Aadukalam is quite an impressive account of lives that revolve around rooster fights and emotions that coat the sheer existence of people who are threatened with the success of their peers – betrayal, fear and ego. Dhanush and Jayabalan have come up with powerhouse performances scripted by Vetri’s mighty pen.

Trade pundits suggest that an analysis of the outcome of the movie’s collections provide a rosy picture, thanks to overwhelmingly positive reviews and word of mouth.

1) Siruthai
Karthi is in a dual role and Tamannah is in a dare-me-to-shed-some-clothes mode. Remake of Vikramarkudu, Siruthai raises more questions than entertaining since the director seems to have taken his cinematic liberties a bit too far.
Trade Talk:
Rural centers are providing respite for the movie, what with multiplexes registering a trend of slowdown in collections.
Public Talk:
Fun to watch Karthi shouldering the responsibilities of his roles with ease, nevertheless.
